Four of the best breakfast spots in Plymouth
Breakfast (in this writer’s opinion) is THE best time to go out for a meal. What could be better than getting out for some fresh air and kicking off the day with a yummy breakfast?
Especially if you’re eating out with people, it's a rare opportunity to truly connect, as breakfast is often a solitary affair at home. Dining out transforms it into a social experience, where catching up and conversation can flow as freely as the coffee.
Whether it's the aroma of freshly baked pastries or the sizzle of bacon, we have found some of the nicest spots in Plymouth to gather your friends and family for the first meal of the day.
The Early Bird
Offering breakfast bagels, sticky toffee pudding pancakes, and cooked breakfasts, there’s so many options on this menu. Highlights from the brunch menu include doughnut French toast and breakfast quesadillas.
Why not enjoy a breakfast bagel filled with smoked salmon and cream cheese or halloumi and falafel for a veggie option? Even the extras sound gorgeous, like the chicken salt fries and hash browns.
They have two locations in Plymouth, one on Mayflower Street and the other on Mutley Plain which is only open from Wednesday – Sunday. They do walk-ins only but they’re open from 8:30 – 16:00, so whether you’re wanting an early breakfast or a brunch, the Early Bird is a great spot.
The Hutong Bagel Co
The Hutong Bagel Co is the perfect place to eat if you’re craving a bagel breakfast sandwich. Firstly choose from a plain, sesame, or everything bagel, then you have your classic fillings like simply cream cheese, salmon and cream cheese or bacon, egg, and cheese.
The salt beef, sauerkraut, pickles, and mustard mayo with emmental sounds tasty, or they have a couple of veggie options too. Plus they have a sweet bagel filled with banana, peanut butter, honey, and cinnamon sugar – this certainly sounds like my cup of tea!
And speaking of tea, they have a good selection of hot drinks or iced if that’s more your thing. They’re open from 7:30am – 14:30pm every day and are based at 160 Cremyll Street.
Fig and Thyme Kitchen
After something sweet? Fig and Thyme do waffles with fresh berries or biscoff, and a banana bread wedge which is served with candied walnuts, peanut butter ice cream, and delicious caramelised banana. Sounds delightful!
If you’re a fan of a savoury, you can opt for avocado toast, crumpet benedict, poached eggs on toast, or a bacon and brie croffle. They even have sharing boards for around £30 if you’d like something a little fancier for your morning catch up.
They open at 9:30am every day, except on Sundays where they open at 10am. And they don’t take bookings, so you’ll have to try your luck and walk in, but trust us, the food looks absolutely amazing.
The Terrace Plymouth
Breakfast is served until 11:30am and they offer some pretty typical options like avocado toast, eggs benedict, jam and toast, or American style pancakes.
The crab benedict is a little different, and perfect if you’re a fan of seafood, or there’s also a luxury granola if you’d prefer something a little lighter. The Terrace is also open for lunch and dinner so there’s small plates, wraps, burgers and larger plates if you’re after something a bit more filling.
The Terrace is also dog friendly, perfect if you want to bring your furry friends. It’s important to note that The Terrace is weather dependent, so probably won’t be open if it’s pouring down with rain. Based on Madeira Road, it opens every morning at 9am.
